The Turbulent Reality ‘Daily Image’ By He Wenjue
Apr 12, 2013 - May 15, 2014

Press Release

The value of ‘Daily image’ was that it showed the image as daily life itself, becoming part of it, even becoming the means to unified daily life, eventually evolved into the focus of all the visual and full consciousness. The moment when becoming the focus, the social relations between people properly show out.

If the themes of the ‘Water’ and ‘Movies’ were more concentrated, the ‘Daily image’ was more expansion, or did not focus on any subject. He Wenjue focused on the meaning of scratching the images. Through the scratching of complete image, the painting was split into the turbulent reality and interfere image. But what He Wenjue’s scratching must not be seen as a neutral action, because it had an abstract force. The scratching made the painting more philosophical, making specific life scene into a speculative world and showed the dilemma of modern society. It was not the same for life of society allowed and individuals.

He Wenjue's ‘daily image’ was actually an image group, which was sudden separated from every moment in life and finally got together. They reorganized them into new landscape which was about daily and reality and became a self sufficient image system with ‘Water’ and ‘Movies’.

The truth of history was much more monotonous than our daily life. Each historical stage has different forms, but there is always a basis or integrity which supports the whole operation of history and finally formed a grand narrative. ‘Daily image’ is trying to dispel macroscopic narrative, it is not worth mentioning for the daily life under the country, nation and society.
